Margaret S. Harbison, MD

Director of Women's Health

"As women travel across the life cycle they experience a variety of issues unique to females.  As caregivers, women have not always received the opportunity to experience empathy-it is paramount in therapy to allow women to cultivate this sense of empathy.”

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH:

The shortest distance between two points may be a straight line, but people often learn a great deal on detours.

Graduating with a Psychology degree from Georgetown University, Peggy Harbison completed the Clinical Psychology Master’s Program at West Chester University.  Working first in a social work position at St. Mary’s, a residential facility for abused and neglected children, she then served as Residential Director.

As an immense respect for the process of therapy grew, as well as curiosity regarding the pharmacology and biological aspects of mental health, Harbison returned to medical school at the Medical College of Pennsylvania.  She then completed her psychiatry residency at the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital.  Upon graduation, she served as consultation to the Renfrew Center, an impatient eating disorders/women’s mental health facility.

Currently, Dr. Harbison is Medical Director of the Partial Hospital Program at Pennsylvania Hospital and is a partner and Director of Women’s Health at Centra, P.C.  Dr. Harbison is board certified.
