Dr. Christian Jordal is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Pennsylvania (MF 000699). He has been clinically active for the past decade across a variety of settings including university healthcare centers, community mental health agencies, and urban hospitals. Dr. Jordal has worked extensively in short and longer term psychotherapy with clients of myriad racial and cultural identities; faiths; as well as gender and sexual identities.
He assisted in the development and implementation of the first collaborative healthcare program in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at the University of California San Diego Medical Center and was the first clinician ever placed at the site. He worked with children (and families) ranging in age from four to eighteen to address issues of anxiety and depression; behavioral and attention related issues; coming out; grief and adjustment issues related to death and divorce of loved ones and pets; and social skills development.
Dr. Jordal also received extensive training in couples counseling including Prepare Enrich Relational Assessment and the Structured Initial Interview assessment during a specialized internship at the Marriage and Family Counseling Service in Rock Island, Illinois. He is also currently participating in a post-graduate certification program in Sex Therapy at the Council For Relationships in West Philadelphia. The focus of his training in couples counseling includes: adjustment; anxiety and depression; attachment-related trauma; coming out; communication skills training; infidelity; interpersonal violence; polyamorous relationships; relational enrichment; and sex therapy.
In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Jordal also holds a full time faculty position in the Department of Couple & Family Therapy (CFT) at Drexel University. He received his Ph.D. in Human Development with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from Virginia Tech, and his M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of San Diego.
He has coauthored several articles published in peer-reviewed, academic journals related to his research on sexual decision-making; mixed-orientation relationships, marital commitment, and behavioral health outcomes. He has also presented this work at annual conferences of the American Association For Marriage and Family Therapy and the Society of Behavioral Medicine.
Dr. Jordal is a Clinical Fellow and Supervisor Candidate of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and a member of the American Family Therapy Academy. He works out of the Center City Philadelphia office.
